Frequently asked questions about precision casting
Occhiali in microfusione What's "precision lost wax casting"?

The precision lost wax casting or the casting is a particular method to reproduce accurately complicated metal pieces, also very small pieces, replacing to your advantage, long assemblage operations. The original pattern is copied accurately with special silicone rubbers and then reproduced in wax. At their turn, the wax copies (reproduction in positive of the original patterns) will be coated with special ceramics. The forms obtained are baked for many hours permitting to the wax to melt, leaving in its place the print that will be after filled by the melted metal.

Dettagli modellismo in microfusione What type of pieces can I do?

Special series of valuable objects, parts for pens and clocks, complicated mechanisms for musical instruments, pieces for railway or naval modelism, little sculptures, reproductions of rare coins, medals, antique weapons, handles and jewellery for antiques and old automobiles, fashion accessories, components for metal glasses and decorations for plastic glasses, parts for micro and electro mechanic, etc.

Gioielli in microfusione What kind of finishing can I get for the cast pieces?

The pieces are normally delivered with a smooth surface, of an opaque and satin aspect, with a small residuum of the alimentation canal. The copper (brass, bronze and nickel silver) alloys can easily be tin brazed or welded with silver alloys, polished with abrasive wheels or vibration and strainer systems. The Sicast materials do not contain lead or cadmium, are not submitted to acid treatments and are tested to accept all the most frequent galvanic treatments (with copper, nickel, silver, gold, and rhodium). The beryl copper can be submitted to several thermic treatments, to obtain surprising elastic and durability characteristics (even over 300 Vickers).

In which materials can I make my orders?

Brass, Bronze and special bronzes, Nickel Silver, Beryl Copper, Aluminium, all without lead and cadmium. In the metal table there are indicated the most frequently used materials, and also the over 60 alloys produced since now, but it is possible to produce special alloys on request.

What do I need to produce the pieces?

An original model (master), practically made out of any material: metal, plastic, wood, gypsum, wax, also made out of more parts welded or glued together. The casted parts will have, as compared with the original model a shrinkage of about 1,5 - 2%. It is better always to indicate which is the most important quotation to be respected, and where to put the alimentation canal.

Are the moulds expensive?

The making process doesn't need traditional moulds, but short duration silicone or ceramic moulds. At the beginning of the project with every article, and only for the first time, a fee is charged for the manufactoring of the moulds, of about 30 €, depending on the size of the original model.

What's the minimum quantity I can order?

You can order even a single piece, and the prices are not depending on the quantity.

 What's the photo-etching?

Parti per telefonini in fotoincisioneThe method of photo etching, or chemical machining, is a sophisticated system to cut and engrave with precision metal plates, even very thin ones, that replaces to your advantage the traditional shearing and engraving.                                    read more
